Apple Mincemeat Loaded Crisp


Try this very unique and meaty recipe for apple crisp. This is filled with a lot of goodies, specifically layers of nutritious apples and a mixture of mincemeat, nuts, dates and chocolate chips and the nice buttery crumb topping. Besides the mincemeat, the addition of chocolate chips made this apple crisp even more fantastic. Chocolate chips made this apple crisp sweeter and gave it a special chocolaty flavor. By the way, mincemeat is a unique kind of ingredient commonly used as a pie filling. It is made up of chopped dried fruit, distilled spirits, spices and originally has lean beef, beef suet or venison. Modern recipes for mincemeat use beef suet and sometimes brandy or wine.  If you’re wondering how this unique combination tastes like, then don’t hesitate to try this recipe.

This recipe serves 6.

Ingredients:
  • * 4 cups thinly sliced apples
  • * 1 cup prepared mincemeat
  • * 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • * 1/2 cup chopped dates
  • * 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • * 1/3 cup cranberry juice 
  • * 1 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • * 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • * 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • * 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • * 1/2 cup butter, room temperature

Procedure:

Grease a 9-inch square baking dish with butter and then assemble half of the apple slices into the dish.
In a large mixing bowl, stir in mincemeat, chopped nuts, dates, and chocolate chips. Pour mixture over the apples on baking dish and then top with the remaining apples. Pour cranberry juice evenly over the apples.

In a medium-sized bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and butter with your clean fingertips. Mix until crumbly and then pour all over the crisp on baking dish.
Bake crisp in the oven at 350° Fahrenheit for 55 to 60 minutes, or until apples are soft.
Serve warm and topped with whipped cream or ice cream.
